This is the end of the Silver Coast, a stretch of sandy beaches of more than 200 kilometer that starts at the Gironde rivermouth. The VVF surf spot in Anglet is the first beautiful bay in a long line. From here to the south the coast of the Bask Country starts twisting and turning. The area took its name ‘Chambre d’Amour’ from an unallowed love story between a poor guy and a rich girl. They met in a cave in this bay and were surprised by the quicker than normal rising tide, the ocean ended their love but it still lives in the name of this area. The 500 meter of beach next to the cliffs with the Biarritz lighthouse has no jetties as a lot of the other Anglet beaches. The waves can pop up sucky or line up with long walls, it’s a bit of everything depending on the mood of the sand. It’s the only spot in Anglet that’s surfable on high tide and with low tide it is better somewhere else. There can be a long peeling left with the right swell, the right wind and on the right time. © Christina Antje Friedrich
