We respect your privacy. Surfer Map is here to provide information, if we use any personal data it’s for the purpose of running this site properly, to be able to provide our services and in order to fulfill legal requirements.

Cookies and other browser technologies

We use Cookies. Cookies are small text files that are stored on your computer by your browser, almost any modern website need them to work properly, Cookies are designed to allow the website to recognise its users on subsequent visits. Cookie can store your preferences making the site more comfortable to use. Cookies cannot do any harm to your computer and cannot contain viruses or malware. There are also other technologies that allow a website to store information in your browser (Local Storage, IndexedDB, Web SQL) which Surfer Map can use for proper functioning.

Managing cookies

Generally you have the option to see what cookies you’ve got and delete them individually, block third party cookies or cookies from particular sites, accept all cookies, etc.. You should be aware that any preferences will be lost if you delete cookies and many websites including Surfer Map will stop working properly if you disable them. We do not recommend turning cookies off when using Surfer Map for these reasons.

Server logs

Virtually every web server on the internet writes server log files. It helps to monitor performance, check errors, detect abuse, collect statistics etc. Surfer Map is no exception, we need these standard tools to run our site. The legal basis for this processing is our legitimate interest. Information in the logs usually include: time of access, IP address, address of the requested page, browser type and version, used operating system, referrer URL (last visited website). All Surfer Map server logs are only used internally, they are never shared with anyone outside Surfer Map. Logs are written continuously and rotated automatically (deleted after certain time) when they are not needed anymore.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. (“Google”) to analyze traffic on our website. Google Analytics system collects the usage data which may include your IP address, geographical location, browser type and version, operating system, referral source, length of visit, page views and website navigation paths etc. Google Analytics also use cookies to make it work. The information gathered is used to create reports about the use of our website. We may also provide reports to 3rd party, for example to our advertisers, but such reports will never include personal information. The legal basis for this processing is our legitimate interests, namely monitoring and improving our website and services.

Advertising and Personalized Ads

Displaying advertisments allows Surfer Map to offer information for free. We sell ads directlyand do not use ad networks from Google or other partners. We display only non-personalized ads for EU users by default.

Policy modifications

We reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy, in which case we will post the changes to this Privacy Policy page, changes will become effective from when they are posted.
