The surf and contest capital of the whole Gironde department and the surf beach of Bordeaux. The long boardwalk gives an easy access to many surf possibilities north, central or south. Lacanau is like 5 other villages around in one, with all you need to surf and party. Unfortunately Lacanau did loose a lot of its beach in the passed winterstorms, the rock jetties are still there (and they still help to handle more size) but they got the company of a rocky dike-alike construction with some new sand to prevent further erosion. With high tide there is not much left to surf at central Lacanau or you have to deal with the backwash. Luckily north or south there are still plenty of options. The surf depends on the banks and that change a lot, In 2014 Lacanau had the best bank around and about 2015 nobody wants to talk anymore… Luckily 2016 is good again. © www.benoitrual.fr
