Backdoor

A hollow wave that works better on the smaller summer swells. Maxes-out when it`s double-overhead. Don`t surf with low tide, unless you want to get scratched.

São Lourenço

The Stormriders Guide nicknames this break as `the Portuguese version of Sunset` and that gives a good description of what to expect here. This reefbreak can hold giant surf and is challenging for even the most hardcore chargers on those big N/NW days. A softer righthander breaks on the inside...

Cave

A slab that creates waves for experienced surfers only. The heaviest wave in the Ericiera region, comparable to the hollow mutants mostly associated with Australia or Tasmania. Come and watch the show when the pros are around.

Coxos

The queen of all waves in the Ericeira World Surfing Reserve and one of the most famous righthanders in Europe. Groundswells roll into the small bay and unload on a reef bottom, often with fierce power. The wave changes according to swell direction, period and wind direction, but is always fun....

Crazy Left

A hollow left on the south side of Coxos Bay that can be as challenging as waves get. It can become crowded with bodyboarders on the epic days who drop in deeper than any surfer. Be prepared to get hammered on the bigger days.

São Julião

São Julião works on most swell directions and tides with wave quality depending on the sandbars. A small wave spot that maxes out easily, so a good summer option! But come for dawn patrol, as the waves here don`t like wind. Show respect for the extensive crew of young local chargers.
