São Pedro - Bafureira
Bafureira rubs shoulders with Bico and works in similar conditions. Being a bit faster and shorter than it`s neighbour makes this wave popular with shortboarders as well. This wave sometimes works as an A-frame but be careful of the rocks if you take off to the left.

Praia da Matadouro
A versatile bay with several peaks that vary in quality, shape and power. A good option to get used to surfing on reef with little or no dangerous rocks sticking out. When it`s windy it`s one of the only spots in Ericeira suitable for kite – and windsurfers too.

Molho Leste
Powerful right hander that breaks off a man-made jetty. When it`s on it can throw some fast, hollow rides. Sheltered from northern winds, but not from localism.

Praia Azul
Beautiful beach at the mouth of Rio Sizandro. Sometimes the waves here can be as stunning as the surrounding natural scenery. Always bigger than anywhere else, the sandbars of Praia Azul are a reliable option on smaller summer days. Plenty of space to launch your kite too when the Nortada starts...

Almagreira
Pristine beach with a desolate atmosphere, a world apart from the nearby surf epicenter. Almagreira delivers quality waves with most swells, as long as there is some south in the wind direction. Sandy bottom but careful for the odd rock on low tide. Bring some food and drinks if you plan on...

Gigi
Just a short walk to the North of Lagide is a beachbreak with more mellow waves and less crowds than its famous neighbour. Works with most swells, but needs some offshore wind to get the right shape. © Isa Martins /

Cerros
A very sheltered beachbreak and good beginners spot when Meio da Baia gets too gnarly for those first rides. A perfect option for windseekers too, with plenty of parking near the beach. © Isa Martins /

Praia do Castelo
Depending on the sandbars and swell direction, this long, empty beach can have both left– and right handers with minimal crowds and clean water, despite its proximity to Lisbon. A good choice to escape the crowds at nearby Costa da Caparica. ©...

Praia do Magoito
A spot known for its long righthander which comes alive in a solid north-northwest swell. There are plenty of shifting peaks to ride in the main bay as well, but be aware as the waves can deal out some power here. At high tide the cliffs give shelter for the strong side-onshore winds in the...

Praia do Peixe
In a solid swell a mellow righthander starts to form inside the harbour. A great spot for beginners as the jetty provides shelter from the big sneaker sets. Stunning views of Ericeira fishing port from the surf.

Praia do Norte
A long righthander that breaks in front of Ericeira center. Mostly quite mellow, so a good option if you`re not ready for barrels yet.

Praia Pequena
A less consistent version of its bigger brother, Praia Grande. But with less crowds, a more relaxed vibe and better shelter against the strong summer Nortada. Park on the parking spot north of Nortada Hotel and follow the path spiralling down the cliffs.

Praia da Adraga
Come to this beach expecting world-class waves and you`ll most likely end up being dissapointed. But come to this beach expecting world-class natural beauty and you`ll feel in heaven. And sometimes, just sometimes, all the elements come together and you might have a soul session with just you...

Backdoor
A hollow wave that works better on the smaller summer swells. Maxes-out when it`s double-overhead. Don`t surf with low tide, unless you want to get scratched.

São Pedro - Bico
Park your car at the parking spot overlooking the point and stare at the clean, mellow right lines rolling in. Due to it`s location this pointbreak is more exposed to swell than the surrounding breaks and is a favourite amongst the local longboarders and...
