If you take the boat from Royan, you enter the land of wine and waves. On a bigger swell you should head to the charming village of Soulac-sur-Mer where the train from Bordeaux stops since the 19th century. The Gironde rivermouth forms the banks further offshore. The spot is always difficult but the brave can score a bowly barrelfest here. It’s always hollow and barrels can roll everywhere allthough you can have small fun rides too. It gets smaller on low tide, sometimes a good choice. As it’s still in the Gironde estuary the current can challenge your paddling skills! © www.bariksurfshop.com
