Sunday about 19.00h a kitesurfer got into troubles when the wind dropped and turned offshore. Coming from the beach of El Hierro he still tried to reach the bay of La Caleta but lost control and went downwind towards Lanzarote. At 19.10h windsurfers in La Caleta called 112 for help. 10 minutes later the kite went down and all visible contact was gone. At about 19.35h, almost dark, the rescue helicopter of Gobierno de Canarias and a patrol boat of the Guardia Civil started searching in the channel between Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. Around 20.30h, in total darkness, the kitesurfer was saved of his worst nightmare! One thing is sure, never doubt to call 112 in case of an emergancy. Great job!
